Monday, February 25, 2008 marks a unique event held in Second Life when premier SL fashion agency EFA and RL fashion consultancy firm The Artist Advice got together to organize a fashion show that aims to merge RL and SL designers and showcase their works in a fashion show. They aptly call it First Fusion.
SL Acoustic heartthrob Mankind Tracer opens this unique and historical event with his acoustic music and wonderful charisma that just shines through his SL persona. He got the audience revving and engaged the crowd in interactive banter, and along with his amazing originals did a powerful rendition of Rolling Stones’ Painted Black. He was called to do an encore in which he sang two more songs.
Designers Aphrodite Outlander, Nicky Ree, Indira Bekkers and Sysy Chapman showcased and brought into SL works of RL fashion house Femis Fashion whose use of color in their clothes are very liberal yet tasteful. The audience lapped in every visual delight and those who were not able to see it properly were green with envy, yet still enjoyed the show because of the event’s fun atmosphere.
There were minor inconveniences with the event, apart from the usual lag that plagues SL once in a while. At one point during the event, someone rezzed a self replicating Mario prim that peppered the right part of the sim. At least it did not spread enough to interfere with the activities on the catwalk. Then two people made lag worse and attempt to tear the attention away from the catwalk by rezzing huge prim heads of Mario and another cartoon character. Those people were ignored by the audience and the show went on.
Meanwhile, the RL fashion show was held in Debaile , a popular center for Politics, Culture and Media in the Netherlands. Femis Fashion’s new collection was shown and the broadcast of the show was done by “Fashion 360 Television”. The collection’s inspiration were the different seasons of the year that represent different worlds and different views.
Right after the show, there was a Meet The Designers panel where press and audience were free to ask questions regarding the making of this historical event. Questions were asked regarding the designers’ work and how the show came to be.
An after party was held and those who stayed danced away to fine ambient tunes with the designers and the models.
This event was sponsored by First Meta, the company behind the Metacard, SL’s first and only credit card for inworld purchases. The fashion show was held at their beautiful sim. Co sponsors/wall sponsors were:
